"Of course you know who I am. I'm a daughter of the darkness just as  surely as you are his son…"

Ever since his brief encounter with Emilia at The Shade, Derek's  thoughts and dreams have been haunted with images of the mysterious,  beautiful brunette. Plagued with guilt, he struggles to understand why  he is so drawn to this dark stranger from his past.

When Emilia suddenly appears again on the island, Derek is both  terrified and intrigued. But this time, he is determined to involve  Sofia and discover who this woman is.

If only Derek and Sofia knew, Emilia is a mystery that should be left  undiscovered…

I adored A Blaze of Sun, like I adore the rest of the series. This one's different in many ways, though, and I welcomed that. As usual, I flew through this book in one go, like I have for all the books in this series. That definitely tells you how addictive they are! A Blaze of Sun satisfied my craving for a while, but I'm already looking forward to the next and final book.

There's so much going on in this book! Derek and Sofia are still trying to find a cure, and there's desperation everywhere, especially with Aiden and Ingrid - Sofia's parents - locked up in the cells and a danger of attack from the hunters and the other vampire covens. Derek and Sofia's relationship is put to the test with the introduction of Emilia, a woman Derek feels an undeniable attraction to. But can Sofia and Derek get past everything to prove their love is stronger, as well as protect the Shade from its enemies?

It's amazing to think about how much Sofia and Derek have grown since the first book. A Blaze of Sun revisits some pivotal scenes from A Shade of Vampire, which made me really nostalgic. Though their relationship gets strained at times in this book, they get through it because of the intensity of their love, which is really admirable. They care for each other so much, and they'd do anything to be together. It really is true what they keep saying, that they're strongest together and weakest apart. Experience has definitely proven that to them. I loved the decisions they made together in this book, and how they strengthened their love.

One of the things I love most about this series is that it's not just focused on one couple. In A Shadow of Light, we got to know Claudia and Yuri's story, and in this one we find out more about Ian, Kyle and Anna. That's one strong love triangle, and it hurts me to think that one of those guys will probably end up disappointed. I love that this series is told from multiple perspectives, because we get to know so much about not just the protagonists but other characters too. It definitely helps empathize with them. Well, except for Ingrid. I just can't bring myself to like her at all.

There's more tension in this book because of an unknown enemy - the original vampire. He's darkness and evil reincarnate, and will do anything to get what he wants. Even Borys Maslen seems mild compared to him. I hope we get to find out more about him in the next book, because he's still shrouded in mystery, and I quite liked the fact that no one has set eyes on him yet, not even those working for him.

We get quite a few surprises in this, one of which to be honest is a little obvious, and I got it really early on. But it's shocking nonetheless, and it's a very interesting development. I don't want to say much about the others, but one is a definite game changer. I'm really interested to see how that plays out in the final book.

A Blaze of Sun is an intense and riveting read, and it's got me dying for the next one already. Fans of this series will love this one! Swooning over Derek, rooting for him and Sofia, secretly hoping Sofia and Aiden patch things up... These are just some of the things I know you'll feel when reading this. The epilogue once again is another shocker, which makes the wait for the final book quite torturous! But I know it'll be worth it.
